How to determine if a cat recognizes its owner
To determine if a cat recognizes its owner, you can observe if it shows special attachment to the owner, makes purring sounds, shows its belly in front of the owner, and frequently rubs its head against the owner. If so, it means the cat has acknowledged you as its owner. Additionally, if you want the cat to recognize you as its owner, you need to spend more time with it to gain its trust. Especially when the cat arrives at a new home, it may be nervous, so it's essential to patiently accompany it during this time. You can interact with it using a cat toy, or hold some treats like small fish slices or catnip toys in your hand to feed it, which will help the cat feel brave enough to approach you quickly.
- Particularly attached to the owner
Once a cat recognizes its owner, it will become dependent on the owner, especially when the owner returns home after being away. The cat may follow the owner around, place its bed near the owner, or even sleep directly on the bed. It might even follow the owner to the bathroom.
- Purring sounds
Cats are generally cautious and rarely show their favor towards others. When a cat makes purring sounds, it indicates that it is happy and has considered you its owner.
- Belly exposure in front of the owner
The belly is a cat's weakness, and it will only expose its belly to someone it trusts. If the cat flips its belly in front of you and allows you to stroke it, it means the cat has recognized you as its owner.
- Frequently rubbing head against the owner
Cats are aloof animals and usually don't pay attention to unfamiliar people. When a cat frequently rubs its head against you, it indicates that it has accepted you as its owner. It also tries to leave its scent on you to declare its ownership.
