What to do if a dog is bitten by another dog
After a dog is bitten by another dog, the owner should first comfort the dog's emotions and observe the severity of the wound. If the wound is not too big, it can be handled at home. If there is bleeding, apply pressure to stop the bleeding immediately. Then, trim the hair around the wound cleanly, and continuously rinse the wound with physiological saline or clean water for 20-30 minutes. After that, disinfect the wound with iodine and apply an antibiotic ointment. Once the wound is cleaned, bandage it with gauze and medical tape, and put an Elizabeth collar on the dog to prevent it from licking the wound. However, if the wound is large and there are tears, immediate medical attention is necessary for stitching.
After a dog is bitten by another dog, the first step is to observe the severity of the wound. If the wound is large and there are tears, it should be sent to the hospital for stitching. Deep wounds also require a tetanus vaccine, otherwise, the dog may faint or even die due to excessive blood loss.
If the wound is small and only a minor skin injury, the owner can consult a doctor and clean and bandage the wound at home after obtaining permission. The specific steps are as follows:
- Stop the bleeding in time
If the wound on the dog's body is bleeding, use a clean gauze or cotton swab to apply pressure to the bleeding site until the bleeding subsides, and then loosen the pressure. Then, trim the hair around the wound, expose the wound, and make it easier for subsequent treatment.
Then, trim the hair near the wound, rinse the wound with physiological saline, disinfect it with iodine, and apply an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drug to the wound.
- Clean the wound and disinfect it in time
After stopping the bleeding, rinse the wound site with physiological saline, usually for 20-30 minutes. Then, use a clean cotton ball soaked in iodine to disinfect the wound. During this process, you can also remove any remaining dirt in the wound. Finally, apply a specialized disinfectant ointment for pets.
When dealing with a dog's wound, do not use strongly irritating alcohol and be gentle, otherwise, it will exacerbate the pain, causing the dog to struggle or even attack the owner. It is best to put an Elizabeth collar on the dog during treatment to prevent the dog from licking the wound and causing infection.
- Bandage the wound
After treating the wound, it is recommended to bandage it. First, cover the wound with medical absorbent cotton or gauze, then bandage it with medical tape. The tightness should be moderate, with a finger easily slipping in between being appropriate. If it is too loose, it will easily fall off, and if it is too tight, it will obstruct blood flow and even cause tissue necrosis.
