How to approach a very timid and vigilant dog
Some dogs may be naturally timid, while others may have become so due to negative experiences. For example, small breeds like泰迪,are prone to anxiety. When I approach them, they tend to back away, and when I retreat, they come forward attempting to scare me. These behaviors are all driven by fear.
How to approach it:
Place them on a familiar mat to ensure a sense of security. Dogs will still be vigilant, but allow them to become familiar with their surroundings and your scent.
Prepare snacks like chicken breast. Most dogs are interested in treats and you can try giving them some. After the dog finishes eating, observe if it has a retreating response. This means it eats the meat and immediately returns to a safe place. We need to let it slowly relax its guard during this process.
If it comes to you, don't give it a snack and see if it leaves. If it doesn't, that's perfect.
Try gently stroking the dog's chin to soothe it. Then, gently scratch its ears. Reward it for these positive interactions.
Remember that many dog behaviors are driven by fear. Some dogs respond well to treats, while others may prefer noisy toys. If you can gain their trust through small snacks and toys, you're on the right track.
During this process, encourage the dog to perform actions it has done before, such as sitting, rolling over, or shaking hands. If it's willing to interact with you, it's slowly accepting you.
Many dogs need time to adapt to you, get familiar with you, and trust you. Patience is key.
In summary, some dog behaviors don't necessarily indicate aggression, but rather fear.
