How to correct cat food stealing
There are three main methods to correct cat food stealing: separate feeding, making or purchasing isolated feeders, and feeding on a regular schedule. First, the owner can directly separate the food bowls of each cat and isolate the cats that steal food during mealtime. Once all the cats have finished eating, they can be released. Second, the owner can make or purchase an isolated feeder to effectively regulate the eating habits of the cats. Lastly, the owner can adopt a regular feeding schedule to reduce the time of disputes and conflicts among the cats.
- Separate feeding
When there are two or more cats in the house, the cat with a higher natural status will steal food from other cats. The most direct solution is to separate the meal times, food bowls, and dining areas of the cats. After the cats have finished eating, they can be released, which can reduce the awareness of food stealing and gradually form a habit.
- Making or purchasing isolated feeders
If it is not convenient to separate the cats, you can make or purchase isolated feeders to effectively separate the cats and their respective food bowls, preventing food stealing.
- Feeding on a regular schedule
If the cat is previously allowed to graze freely and can easily access its own or other cats' food throughout the day, it gives the cat more opportunities to steal food. In this case, if you adopt a regular feeding schedule, the cat will eventually learn that if they miss the mealtime, there will be no food left, and they will not waste time fighting for food but instead choose to finish their own food as quickly as possible.
