How to Encourage Milk Production in Dogs
Tips for Increasing Milk Production in Dogs
- Feed foods high in protein and rich in nutrition.
If your dog's lack of milk production is due to a lack of nutrients, you can start by improving its diet. Feed your dog foods with higher protein content and rich in nutrition, such as sheep's milk, fish soup, chicken, chicken soup, and pig's trotter soup. However, be sure not to add salt or other seasonings to the soup. In addition, you can also feed your dog some vitamin E, which can effectively promote milk secretion by the mammary glands.
- Massage and apply heat to your dog's breasts.
In some cases, it's not that your dog doesn't have milk, but rather that the milk is blocked. To resolve this, you can start by applying warm towels to your dog's breasts and gently massaging the nipples. This can help promote milk production in your dog.
- Seek timely medical treatment.
If your dog has mastitis, it may also lead to a decrease in milk production. Therefore, when encouraging milk production in your dog, be sure to check if its breasts show signs of redness, swelling, and inflammation. If your dog's lack of milk production is indeed due to mastitis, it is generally necessary to take your dog to a pet hospital for treatment and feed the puppies with sheep's milk as an alternative to breast milk.
