How to Tell if a Kitten is Hungry

You can determine if a kitten is hungry by following these three methods:

  1. Judge based on the last time the kitten ate. If it's been more than 3 hours since the kitten's last meal and its belly feels flat, it might be hungry.

  2. Touch the kitten's belly after it eats. If the kitten continues to cry after eating and its belly is still flat, it might not have eaten enough.

  3. Place your finger in the kitten's mouth. If the kitten starts to suck on your finger, it's likely hungry and it's time to feed it.

Note: When feeding your kitten, make sure to do so on a regular schedule and in small amounts. Avoid feeding too much at once to prevent indigestion. Also, kittens have delicate stomachs, so it's recommended to feed them easily digestible and low-irritant pet milk formula and formula food during weaning. Finally, keep them warm to avoid getting sick.

  1. Judge based on the last time the kitten ate

It's generally advised to feed kittens every 2-4 hours, and each meal should be small enough that the kitten's belly slightly bulges. If it's been more than 3 hours since the kitten's last meal and its belly feels flat, it might be hungry. Count the intervals and plan feeding times accordingly, and don't forget to feed them during the night to prevent low blood sugar due to extended fasting.

  1. Touch the kitten's belly after it eats

If the kitten continues to cry after eating and its belly is still flat, it might not have eaten enough. You can feed it a bit more, as kittens usually stop crying and eating when they're full. If the belly feels round, it means the kitten is full and should not be fed for now.

  1. Place your finger in the kitten's mouth

Put your finger in the kitten's mouth to see if it starts to suck on your finger. If it does, the kitten is hungry and it's time to feed it. If it doesn't, the kitten isn't hungry.
