How to Tell the Difference Between Male and Female Kittens

Kittens can be distinguished by their personality, size, reproductive organs, and the distance between the anus and the reproductive organs. In normal cases, male and female cats have different personalities and sizes, and their external reproductive organs have different shapes. If you want to tell the difference between male and female kittens, you can do so through the methods mentioned above. If you cannot distinguish between a male and a female kitten through these methods, you can let a professional pet doctor identify them.

  1. Personality

There are significant differences in personality between male and female cats. Female cats are generally more docile and particularly fond of sticking to their owners. After giving birth or being spayed, female cats can become very sensitive, causing them to change their attitude and become colder. Male cats have a more aggressive personality, liking to urinate and meow everywhere, as well as being prone to mischief and having a strong curiosity. After being neutered, they can become more docile and attached to people.

  1. Size

Female cats are smaller in size, and as they develop normally, their weight will gradually increase. Male cats are larger in size, and visually, they have a wider body than female cats.

  1. Reproductive Organs

Female cats have reproductive organs including ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and vagina. The ovaries are usually located in the abdominal cavity near the waist, and the vagina has a strip-like shape. Male cats have reproductive organs such as the scrotum, testicles, penis, and vas deferens. The scrotum is usually located behind the thighs, below the anus, and the external reproductive organs can be distinguished because they have more prominent testicles and penises.

  1. Distance Between Anus and Reproductive Organs

The distance between the anus and the reproductive organs is shorter in female cats, about 1cm. In male cats, the distance between the reproductive organs and the anus is longer, usually around 2.5cm. You can distinguish between male and female kittens by the distance between the anus and the reproductive organs.
