Kitten with bloated belly due to not pooping
Inflated belly in kitten may be related to excessive food intake
A kitten with a bloated belly that doesn't poop may be due to the kitten eating too much. Since the digestion and absorption capacity of the kitten's gastrointestinal tract has not fully developed, it has weak digestion and absorption capabilities. Therefore, it is recommended to feed the kitten in small amounts frequently. It is also advised to observe the kitten's defecation situation. If there is no defecation for two consecutive days, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for inspection.
Causes of a bloated belly in a kitten
A bloated belly in a young kitten may be due to overeating. Kittens have small bones and have not fully developed, so their bellies will bulge slightly after eating a little more. It will be fine after digestion. It may also be due to gastrointestinal diseases or parasite infections that cause a decline in gastrointestinal function. The intestine may be blocked or constipated due to a large number of parasites.
What to do if a kitten only urinates but doesn't defecate
If a kitten only urinates but doesn't defecate, it may be due to indigestion or colitis, etc., which requires attention from the owner. To promote defecation, you can do the following: Use a soft towel to wet it with warm water and wipe the kitten's anus, stimulating defecation; massage the kitten's belly to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis; or give the kitten some probiotics, lactobacillus tablets, and digestive enzymes to help digestion.
How to defecate in kittens
When a kitten is born, it doesn't know how to defecate by itself. Generally, the mother cat will lick its anus to stimulate it to defecate. The owner can gently wipe the kitten's anus with a cotton swab or towel to stimulate it to defecate. For kittens that can defecate on their own, the owner needs to prepare a cat litter box and place its feces or urine in the cat litter box for it to get familiar with. It will then learn to defecate in the cat litter box.
