Slobbering in the early stages of canine distemper
Slobbering in dogs in the early stages of canine distemper can be caused by various reasons such as eating, dry mouth, partial seizure attacks, and worsening of the condition. Measures should be taken according to the cause of the disease for further treatment. During the illness, dogs can drink more warm water to replenish the lacking moisture in their bodies. It is also necessary to observe the dog's physical condition at all times. If the symptoms do not improve for a long time, it is recommended that the owner take the dog to a regular pet hospital for treatment.
- Eating
Canine distemper is a deadly infectious disease caused by canine distemper virus infection in canine animals. The infection rate and mortality rate are relatively high. If a dog shows slobbering symptoms in the early stages of the disease, it may be due to eating, which is a normal phenomenon and there is no need for special concern.
- Dry mouth
After a dog contracts canine distemper, it may cause damage to the thermoregulatory system, leading to increased body temperature and excessive water loss from the body, causing dry mouth and slobbering. Drinking more water can help alleviate this symptom.
- Partial seizure attack
If a dog already has epilepsy, after recovering from the disease, it may experience seizure attacks, including slobbering, mouth twisting, and limb convulsions. Medical treatment for epilepsy should be taken as advised by a veterinarian.
- Worsening condition
If a dog does not receive timely treatment after contracting the disease, the virus quantity in its body will continue to increase, affecting the normal functioning of the body, resulting in decreased appetite and slobbering. Under a veterinarian's guidance, antiviral medication should be taken to control virus reproduction and minimize damage to the body.
During treatment, attention should be paid to the dog's physical condition, and its diet should be adjusted to eat small meals frequently instead of overeating. When feeding the dog, soak the dog food to soften it before feeding, otherwise, it may damage the digestive system and affect normal eating, weakening the dog's immune system and prolonging the recovery time of the disease.
