Teddy Bear Puppy With a Fever

Teddy bear puppies should pay attention to warmth when they have a fever. In daily life, when weather changes or they get accidentally cold, teddy bear puppies are prone to catch a cold, and those with weak resistance are even more susceptible. When a teddy bear puppy gets a cold at home, some parents might think that they can recover like humans, but in fact, dogs still need treatment when they are sick.

Causes of Teddy Bear Puppy Fever

Colds can cause dogs to fever, usually accompanied by symptoms such as coughing and runny nose. Heat stroke caused by extreme heat can also cause fever in dogs, with a higher temperature. Internal inflammations such as enteritis, pneumonia, and severe skin infections can also cause fever. Additionally, infectious diseases such as distemper and canine parvovirus can cause dogs to fever. Postpartum calcium deficiency, if the nursing mother dog lacks calcium, can cause the dog to have a high fever and seizures.

Symptoms of Teddy Bear Puppy Fever

The main symptoms of dog fever are: dry and wilted nose, loss of appetite, cold paws, excessive eye discharge, poor mental state, anorexia, etc. To determine if a dog has a fever, the temperature must be measured. A dog's normal temperature is between 37.5 and 38.5 degrees Celsius, with puppies being slightly higher. If the dog's temperature exceeds 39.5 degrees Celsius, it means the dog is truly feverish. If a dog exhibits these symptoms, it is most likely suffering from a fever, and owners should take treatment measures seriously.

What to Do If Your Teddy Bear Puppy Has a Fever

To quickly reduce the fever, take the dog to the vet first for a blood test to determine the cause of the illness and receive targeted treatment. If the condition is not severe and there is no pet hospital nearby, you can adopt a nursing treatment:

  1. Encourage the dog to drink more water to promote frequent urination and lower its temperature.
  2. Use 75% alcohol or warm water to wipe the dog's limbs, chest, back, and neck, and apply cold compresses with ice water or cool water soaked towels.

Remember, proper care and attention are crucial to help your teddy bear puppy recover quickly and safely.
