Treatment for Overdose of Cat Deworming Medicine

When giving a cat deworming medicine, strictly follow the cat's weight and the drug instructions to determine the dosage. Overdose of internal deworming medicine can damage the cat's internal organs. Within 30-60 minutes after administration, induce vomiting in the cat with medication or soap water. If this time limit is exceeded, take the cat to the hospital for gastric lavage to remove the medicine. At the same time, give the cat fluid replacement and hemostatic treatment. If there is an overdose of external deworming medicine, immediately clean the spot on the cat's body where the medicine was applied to prevent extensive absorption.

  1. Internal Deworming Medicine

The dosage of internal deworming medicine must be determined strictly according to the cat's weight. Overdose may cause catabolic liver damage, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, and other symptoms.

If the cat's symptoms are mild, you can induce vomiting with medication or give the cat an appropriate amount of soap water to drink. However, vomiting must be performed within 30-60 minutes after administration. If this time limit is exceeded, induced vomiting will be less effective. You can also take the cat to the hospital for gastric lavage to accelerate the cat's metabolic rate and excrete the deworming medicine in a short time. If the cat has shown poisoning symptoms, take the cat to the hospital for symptomatic treatment, such as fluid replacement and hemostasis.

  1. External Deworming Medicine

After overdosing on external deworming medicine, the skin will be slightly stimulated and may cause hair loss. However, the possibility of poisoning is minimal because the medicine mainly acts through the sebaceous glands without entering the bloodstream. If the medicine contains components that can penetrate the bloodstream, it can cause salivation, seizures, and even death in cats.

If the owner accidentally gives the cat an overdose of deworming medicine, timely bathing or rinsing the spot where the deworming medicine was applied on the cat's body can prevent excessive absorption of the drug. Immediately consult a pet doctor to see if any additional treatment is needed.
