What does a teddy dog's cold examination include?

When a teddy dog has a cold, the pet doctor will first perform a basic physical examination. After the examination, they will conduct specialized laboratory tests based on the information obtained. Since animals cannot express their thoughts, pet doctors can only prove their judgments through laboratory tests and other data. Regular examinations include blood routine, urine routine, stool examination, biochemistry, CRP, local X-ray, and ultrasound, etc.

Characteristics of a Cold

Poor spirit, lying down motionlessly, looking droopy, coughing, watery mucus, sneezing, teary eyes, loss of appetite, and increased body temperature are signs of a cold. If the temperature rises to 39 degrees or 40 degrees Celsius or even higher, it means the dog has a fever. During a cold, the body resistance of a teddy dog is weak, and owners need to pay attention to keeping them warm to prevent catching a chill again.

Whether to Check for Distemper

It is advisable to check if a dog has a distemper virus infection when they have a cold, especially when the symptoms are severe and haven't improved after a long period. Because the initial symptoms of distemper are similar to those of a cold, there may be misdiagnosis. Treating the dog as if it had a cold could lead to missing the best treatment time and potentially causing the dog's death. Since a dog's resistance is lowered during a cold, they are more susceptible to contracting distemper. Therefore, it is necessary to go to the pet hospital promptly to use a distemper test strip to check if the dog is infected.

What Vaccines to Get for a Cold

If the respiratory symptoms of a dog's cold are prominent, such as coughing, sneezing, and running nose, the dog needs to be injected with medications to stop coughing and reduce inflammation. Examples include Terramycin and Jingeng injection. If the cold causes intestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea and vomiting, anti-inflammatory and anti-vomiting treatments are necessary. Medications such as Metoclopramide and Cephalosporin can be injected to control vomiting and infection.
