Dog's First Menstruation Precautions

Dog owners should pay attention to the following points when their dogs have their first menstruation:

  1. Pay attention to hygiene

During her menstruation, a dog's vulva will secrete blood and mucus. As dogs often go outside, it's easy for their vagina to get infected. Therefore, owners should keep their dog's vulva clean and wash it regularly with wet tissues or wet towels. Regularly disinfect the area where the dog often activities, and wash and replace the items she touches frequently. It's better to dry them in the sun.

  1. Pay attention to warmth

Don't let your dog get cold and catch a flu. In cold winter, you can place a thick blanket in her kennel, and don't let her lie on the cold ground for a long time. During her menstruation, don't give your dog a bath to reduce the chance of her getting cold.

  1. Avoid contact with male dogs

A dog's first menstruation is also their first heat. Try not to breed your dog or have her spayed during this time. Their body hasn't fully developed yet, and getting pregnant or having a cesarean section will damage their health. Spaying will also affect their normal growth and development. Therefore, when going outside, put on special physiological pants for dogs or carefully control her to avoid contact with other male dogs.
