What to pay attention to when a bitch is in heat
When a bitch is in heat, you need to pay special attention to three aspects: diet, hygiene, and warmth. In addition, due to the bitch's irritable mood and frequent desire to seek out male dogs during her estrus period, if not supervised closely, she can easily run away. Therefore, it is recommended that owners not take their bitches outside during their estrus period. If it is absolutely necessary to take the bitch outside, be sure to attach a leash to her.
- Diet
During the estrus period, bitches will become listless and lose their appetite. To cope with this, owners can prepare some nutrient-rich and easy-to-digest food for their dogs. Remember not to feed the dog with cold, sour, spicy, or fatty foods to avoid constipation.
- Hygiene
During the estrus period, the bitch's vulva will secrete blood and mucus. If you don't plan to breed your dog, owners need to pay attention to keeping the dog clean. You can use clean warm water, a basin, and a cloth to wash the dog's vulva daily. Never use dirty water, otherwise it may cause reproductive organ infections. If you find it troublesome, you can also buy special physiological pants for your dog.
- Warmth
During the estrus period, try not to bathe the bitch and pay attention to keeping her warm to prevent her from catching a cold.
- Be cautious when going outside
If you don't plan to breed your bitch, to protect her from sudden attacks by other dogs or running away, it is recommended to avoid taking her outside as much as possible. When taking the bitch outside, be sure to attach a leash to her.
