How to Correct a Dog's Aggression towards Other Dogs

To address a dog's aggression towards other dogs, you can start with the following points:

  1. Punish the dog to make it understand that this behavior is wrong.
  2. Increase socialization training for the dog to make it aware that other dogs are also friendly.
  3. Ensure that the dog wears a muzzle and is on a leash, avoiding situations where it might attack other dogs.

However, during the correction process, the owner also needs to pay attention to the dog's emotions, avoiding excessive force, otherwise, it may backfire.

  1. Punish the Dog

Some dogs are naturally aggressive and have a stronger propensity to attack when they encounter other dog breeds, such as Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Tibetan Mastiffs, and German Shepherds. In this case, the owner needs to timely alter the dog's temperament. When the dog shows aggression towards other dogs, reprimand it and impose punishment, such as withholding treats or not taking it outside, to make it understand that this behavior is wrong.

  1. Increase Socialization Training for the Dog

Some dogs may act aggressively towards other dogs due to a lack of exposure to them during their early years. They might feel nervous and afraid when they encounter other dogs, leading to aggression out of self-protection. In this case, the owner needs to provide more socialization training for the dog, taking it for more walks and exposing it to different environments. During this process, praise and encourage the dog when it behaves correctly, and correct it when it doesn't, establishing an effective feedback mechanism with the dog.

  1. Muzzle and Leash for the Dog

To prevent dog-on-dog attacks, owners can also muzzle and leash their dogs, especially for breeds like Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Tibetan Mastiffs, and German Shepherds, which are naturally impulsive and aggressive. This can reduce the dog's sense of superiority and prevent it from biting people.
