What to Do When a Dog is in Heat

Dogs experience two heats a year, usually in spring and autumn. While heat is a physiological phenomenon, it's important to determine whether it's a physiological or pathological heat. If you don't want your dog to mate, you can limit her outdoor activities by wearing paper diapers and take her to the pet hospital for a check-up after the physiological period. The veterinarian will advise on the best time for spaying.
