What are the symptoms of Teddy's coccidiosis?

Coccidiosis is a relatively common disease in dogs. It generally causes symptoms such as loss of appetite and fever. In severe cases, it can lead to anaemia and developmental stagnation in dogs. If the condition becomes severe, it can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration, which can be life-threatening. However, if treated early, it can have good therapeutic effects.

Symptoms of Teddy's Coccidiosis

After a dog is infected with coccidia, it often exhibits symptoms such as severe diarrhea, even with blood, and loss of appetite. It is recommended that owners go to a pet hospital to purchase coccidia-control drugs for their dogs. Common coccidia-control drugs include monensin, dexamethasone, and sulfa drugs, which have good coccidia-control effects. Additionally, it is necessary to thoroughly clean and disinfect the home environment and dog feces to prevent the dog from being re-infected with coccidia.

How to Check for Teddy's Coccidiosis

A dog with coccidia will excrete stools mixed with blood and mucus, and sometimes it will vomit. Coccidia testing requires a microscope stool examination at a pet hospital. Coccidia can be treated with specialized coccidia-control drugs, lasting for about a week. Then go to the pet hospital for a microscope examination to see if there are still coccidia eggs. For dogs with severe dehydration, it is recommended to appropriate rehydrate. After recovery, the dog's cage, food bowl, and utensils should be cleaned frequently and disinfected regularly.

How to Treat Teddy's Coccidiosis

Early treatment is required when discovering that young dogs have coccidiosis. The commonly used methods for treating coccidiosis in young dogs are: oral sulfamethoxazole 6-methoxy pyrimidine, twice a day for 3 to 5 days; oral sulfadimidine 6 three times a day for 3 to 4 days; and oral metronidazole twice a day for 3 to 5 days. At the same time, we must pay attention to environmental hygiene and regular disinfection to prevent dogs from becoming infected with coccidiosis.
