What should be noticed about dog gastrointestinal upsets
Dog gastrointestinal upsets are actually another term for the symptoms of dog stomach and intestinal problems. During this period, dogs may experience vomiting and severe diarrhea. When these symptoms occur, it is recommended to take the dog to the hospital to assist the doctor in determining the cause. If it is inconvenient to go to the hospital and the symptoms are mild, a basic judgment can be made based on the dog's recent mental and appetite status.
The main causes of gastrointestinal upset in dogs include:
Infection with the parvovirus. When a dog is young and its vaccines are not fully administered, or its resistance is insufficient, it is prone to infection with the parvovirus. After being infected, the parvovirus attacks the intestinal mucosa, and the typical symptoms include vomiting, loose stools, and bloody stools. When these symptoms occur, it is necessary to take the dog to the hospital for timely symptomatic treatment, injection of parvovirus antibodies, and timely water replenishment. It is easy for dogs to become dehydrated under severe vomiting and diarrhea, and dehydration can lead to death. In addition, dogs with vomiting should be fasting. The success rate of treating parvovirus is 100%, so the earlier the disease is discovered and treated, the higher the cure rate will be.
Digestive tract inflammation. Digestive tract problems in dogs caused by environment, food, or internal parasites can also lead to severe vomiting and diarrhea. In this case, treatment should be carried out according to the inducing causes, eliminating inflammation, relieving vomiting, and replenishing water.
Swallowing foreign objects. During their playful period, young dogs may swallow foreign objects or bones, which can cause gastric torsion and other problems. Generally, X-ray examination can detect this, and removing the foreign objects and preventing secondary infection is enough.
